Li, 58, a former air force major, is known for his efforts in restructuring Air China, which was in the red and shrouded by scandals when he took over the helm in 2000. Under his reign, the Chinese national carrier has turned a new leaf of life and is today the most profitable airline in the country.

China Merchants Securities Buys Bosera Funds at 6.32 billion

Bosera Funds auctioned 48 percent of its shares to China Merchants Securities at 6.32 billion Yuan on December 26, 2007. The price is the highest in Chinese auction history; moreover, the selling company is a non-listed firm. The buyer, China Merchants Securities now owns 73 percent shares of Bosera Funds and has absolute say in the latter.

China Huaneng bids for Singaporean power corporations

China Huaneng Group, a state-owned backbone power producer, has submitted a bid to buy Singapore’s three biggest power corporations under Temasek Holdings – Tuas Power, Power Seraya and Senoko Power. Other competitors for the bid include about 30 international institutions. In-circle sources say the three power projects are likely to be merged into one institution, depending on the buyer’s capacity.
