When all is said and done, how many dreams do we have in our lives? How many can we realize in our careers? How many can we realize outside of them?
Li Feng opened an investment company, but had always been interested in cultural enterprises. Li gathered together a few young professionals who also loved stage performances and founded the Maple Leaf opera troupe.
Li Fan, director of the board at a pharmaceutical company, had long collected porcelain, eventually becoming a donor to the Capital Museum. Once a week Li would ride his BMW 600 to do volunteer work.
Liu Sen is the associate director of a construction and design company here in Beijing. Him and his wife reponded to ads for volunteer work at the Forbidden City.
All of these people have reached a certain status in society. But increasing one's status in society is not the only dream there is-- discovering a sense of responsibility, a passion-- is also important. Only in trying other things can one be satisfied in life.
There are young people who perhaps have never considered making as much money as Li Feng or holding the title that Liu Sen does. They practice what they preach and lead dual lives: During the day they wear western clothing and a tie, while at night they hurry to rock, hip-hop, and folk concerts. Before they acheive that other kind of success within society, they have started another life. For eight hours a day they are cautious plebeians. But afterwards, they blossom like magnificent flowers.
Oftentimes, the diveristy of life can stretch far beyond our expectations.
