The first suspected case of A/H1N1 swine influenza detected in mainland China was announced yesterday.
According to an announcement posted to the China Ministry of Health's website on May 10, a 30-year old man, returned two "weak positive" results to preliminary tests.
According to the ministry, the man, surnamed Bao, is a student at a US university and returned to Chengdu on May 9 on a flight from the US, via Tokyo and Beijing.
The Chinese national was found to have a fever and also exhibited other symptoms on arrival in Chengdu on a flight originating in Beijing on May 9.
The man has been transferred to Sichuan Hospital for Infectious Disease for treatment.
