Public Shaming for Furniture Maker
Summary:Array

Da Vinci, which sells some of China's most expensive furniture, on Wednesday admitted that some of its "imported furniture" is actually produced domestically.

Da Vinci is renowned for its high priced, luxury furniture. Since the first Da Vinci retail store was opened in Singapore in 1997, the company has been selling furniture to Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, and China. It now has 7 chain stores in China.

On July 10, CCTV reported that Da Vinci’s furniture was poor quality and wasn’t imported at all - it was manufactured in China, exported abroad, and then reimported to Chinese market under foreign brands with expensive price tags. China’s state news network also reported that the furniture was made of fiberboard, not of Italian hard wood as the company had claimed.

Da Vinci had been denying CCTV’s accusations, but on Wednesday Panzhuang Xiuhua, General Manager of Da Vinci, admitted that some of the company’s ‘imported American furniture’ was in fact made in China. She started crying and promised repeatedly that Da Vinci’s Italian brands were authentic.

A man who claimed to have purchased over 100 million’s worth of shoddy Da Vinci furniture shouted at the representatives from the company during the press conference, demanding compensation.
