Government May Relax Mortgage Conditions
Summary:Bankers say that new policies might make it easier for home buyers to take out mortgages on mid- and low-priced properties.

The central government is considering policies that would make it easier for home buyers to take out mortgages on mid- and low-priced properties, the 21st Century Business Herald reported Wednesday citing unnamed sources at banks.

Currently there are strict limits on the issuance of new mortgages and the proportion of a bank's loans that it is allowed to allocate to home buyers.

The 21st Century Business Herald didn't give any details of the mortgage policies but said they would support the huge subsidized housing project that the government has undertaken as part of the current five-year-plan.

The business paper also reported that the government may relax lending restrictions for the rail and highway sector and allow banks to lend more than 15 percent of their net capital to individual companies from these sectors.

The bankers told the paper that the policies are going through the approval process and might be issued soon.
