Two high-level Public Security Bureau officials in the southwestern metropolis of Chongqing were formally removed from their positions on June 25.
According to a report in today's Chongqing Morning Post, Wang Pengfei (王鹏飞) was officially removed from his position as head of the Yubei (渝北) District Branch of the city's Public Security Bureau. The captain of the city's Criminal Police Corps (刑事警察总队), Li Yang (李阳), was also said to have been removed from his position.
The newspaper reported that the decision to remove both security officials was made at the 127th executive meeting of Chongqing's municipal government, which was held on June 25.
Wang Pengfei graduated from China Criminal Police University and had earlier worked alongside Wang Lijun in the northeastern city of Tieling (铁岭).
Wang Pengfei had earlier served as the head of Tieling county public security bureau and it has previously been reported that while Wang Lijun served as the head of Tieling city public security bureau, Wang Pengfei was promoted to the deputy position in the city's public security bureau.
It was also reported that Wang Pengfei had helped arrange the car that ferried Wang Lijun to the U.S. consulate in Chengdu in February this year.
In 2003, after Wang Lijun was transferred to Jinzhou (锦州) city, Wang Pengfei was transferred to Panjin City and served as vice head of the Panjin city public security bureau.
After Wang Lijun was transferred to Chongqing in June, 2008, Wang Pengfei soon followed, taking up a position in the Chongqing city public security bureau at the end of 2010.
Wang Pengfei assumed his position as head of Yubei District Public Security Bureau at the end of February 2011.
