Todays' Henan Business Daily devotes pages of coverage to a horrific accident that occured on an elevated section of one of China's major east-west freeways last Friday.

Breaking news reports originally estimated that 26 people had been killed in the accident, but these were later removed from news websites and according to the latest official numbers, 10 people were killed in the accident.

An elevated section of the G30 highway, which connects the coastal province of Jiangxi to the far western region of Xinjiang, collapsed after a truck loaded with fireworks exploded.

The Henan Business Daily spoke to a driver that survived the 30 meter fall to the ground after the bridge collapsed. The paper also interviewed residents of a nearby village who were first to arrive at the scene.

One of the reports in the paper also quoted a relative of one of the victims as saying that government officials had told him that as the accident occured in Henan, the compensation offered would be in keeping with Henan standards, "they said those with a urban household registration could get more than 400,000 in compensation, those with rural household registrations would at most get 180,000 yuan in compensation."

This afternoon, another report appeared on Dahe.cn or the "Henan Newspapering Network Center," which is run by the Henan Daily Publishing Group which owns the Henan Business Daily.

This report said that the latest news from the authorities managing the investigation and clean up at the crash site was that the local government has decided to award compensation to victims according to an interpretation of the compensation laws put out by China's Supreme People's Court which came into effect in 2005. Urban and rural residents will receive the same level of compensation.
