But a year later things have gone better than expected. All of MoCA's funds come from private donations-- there is no government support. But after being open for one year it is still unrealistic to talk about collecting pieces. 'If the museum wants to collect pieces, I suggest that it collect reprints. Buying a CD is cheap. We also want to establish ourselves in art scholarship,' says chief administrator Sun Wenqian of the gallery.

What makes Lu Rongzhi most excited is her work team, young people of difference races, cultures, and educational backgrounds. Passionate, modest, and eager to learn, they throw themselves fully into their endeavors. Like Lu, many are volunteers.

'But we are not selfishly keeping these people here. We are very open to them bringing their experience from here to other art galleries,' says Lu.
