On Sept 1, China will dramatically shake up its visa regulations, but nobody seems sure what exactly this will entail. The country has a long history of holding foreigners on a short leash and is infamous for keeping its immigration policies ambiguous and inconsistent. So are things set to get better or worse?

In today’s podcast, we’re joined by two experts to help us read the tea leaves regarding the new visa regulations and understand why China keeps its immigration policy so frustrating. Gary Chodorow is a Beijing-based immigration lawyer at Hong Law Offices and founder of the visa law blog Law and Border.  And Liu Sen, an attorney at Beijing DHH Law Firm, works with foreign businesses on immigration and visa issues.
