On August 13, Jang Song-thaek, vice-chairman of the National Defense Commission of North Korea, arrived in Beijing, his first stop on a six-day visit to China.

Jang is the highest North Korean official to visit China since Kim Jong-Un came to power. Jang is the husband of the only sister of Kim Jong II.
