Rental Car Demand to Increase During Holiday

News, cover
~This National Day holiday many will choose to drive themselves when traveling rather than use public transportation, since getting tickets for the latter becomes very difficult.
~This year, for the first time, highways across the nation will be toll-free during the holiday, which has greatly encouraged self-driving. The measure is expected to save drivers an average of 30 to 40 percent on their transportation costs.
~Car rental companies anticipate a major boon in business. This year, car rental bookings during the National Day holiday period have increased by more than 30 percent.
~Consequently, the car rental price has also increased. At China Auto Rental Company, a Buick’s normal price is 118 yuan per day, but during the holiday, the daily price will rise to 299 yuan.
~Car rental demand is growing in China. According to a research report by Sinotrust, the total number of cars in China’s rental market increased from 50,000 in 2005 to 160,000 in 2010, an increase of 26.4 percent.
~ Data released by China Taxicab and Livery Association shows that by 2015 there will be an estimated 400,000 vehicles in the rental market with revenue expected to reach 18 billion yuan.

Google Impedes Ali Cloud Operating System
Corporation, Page 25
~Alibaba, China’s leading online marketplace, has irritated its international competitor with the development of its Ali Cloud Operating System.
~Alibaba and its partner Acer had planned to hold a joint news briefing to announce the launch of a smartphone. However, one hour before the news briefing, Google said it would cancel Acer’s right to use Android if the latter went ahead with its plan to cooperate with Ali Cloud. So the news briefing was canceled.
~ Alibaba says the property rights of the Ali Cloud Operating System belong to Alibaba, while Google claims it’s based on Android. The Ali Cloud Operating System is also incompatible with Android, which means it will compete with Google sooner or later.
~Alibaba is a participating company in China’s drive to promote industries in “key electronic parts, high-end general chips and basic software.” However, only companies who have independent property rights are covered by the project.

~The medical care service fee varies based on the qualification of the doctor, ranging from 42 to 100 yuan. The previous registration fee ranged from 5 to 14 yuan.
~Beijing Chaoyang Hospital was the second to introduce the pilot reform program, launching it on Sept 1. Beijing Tongren hospital, Beijing Jishuitan Hospital and Beijing Children’s Hospital also are preparing to institute the reform.

Chinese Farmers Rent Land in Russia

Nation, page 11
~As the land shortage in Northeast China is becoming increasingly severe, local farmers are pouring across the border into Russia.
~
Leasing land is normally about one-fourth the price in Russia as it is in China. Although auctions between local farmers and their Chinese counterparts are now driving the price a bit higher, the quality of land is better and there’s no restriction on the amount that can be leased.
~ There are problems though. Qualified local workers are difficult to find because of to the sparse local population in Russia, and it’s not easy for Chinese farm managers to get high enough quotas from the Russian government to bring in Chinese workers
~Another problem is if Chinese farm managers want their products to go back into China, they have apply for permission, pay a tariff and be subject to an import quota. They are hoping the Chinese government will support them more.
