China Fails To Stem Price Hikes For Foreign Milk Powder

The Chinese National Development and Reform Commission held talks with six foreign milk powder companies early in May, in an attempt to limit price increases for foreign milk powder.

However, foreign milk powder companies have been raising their prices aggressively, with Wyeth and Abbott both upping prices by 10%.

Xi Qing, the public relation director for Wyeth owner Pfizer, says that the company raised prices because it was upgrading its products. Abbott said its prices were higher because of new products and new packaging.
