Banks Ordered to Stop Charging Customers Who Change PIN Number

Officials from the China Banking Regulatory Commission, People's Bank of China and National Development and Reform Commission reminded banks yesterday that they should strictly obey a joint notice on rules governing the charging of service fees by financial institutions.

The three ministries jointly issued a notice in March which ordered banks to stop charging customers for 34 different kinds of service, including account opening fees and fees for altering their PIN number. The notice came into effect on Jul 1.

But according to People’s Daily’s report Wednesday, some banks were still charging customers 10 yuan to reset passwords.

The three ministries also said it was also revising the Interim Measures for the Management of the Service Prices of Commercial Banks to further address unreasonable bank charges.
