MIIT Releases List of Inefficient Companies to be Eliminated

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released a list of 2,255 enterprises that are to be phased out due to their outdated production facilities yesterday. Hebei, Hunan and Shanxi will shed 291, 226 and 173 enterprises respectively. The steel industry accounts for a large proportion of the companies to be shed this year, with 154 steel enterprises to be eliminated. The Ministry has urged provinces and cities to complete the process of closing down these enterprises before the end of 2011.
