Most Central Government Ministries Fail to Reveal Spending

Yesterday, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Civil Affairs became the latest central government departments to release details of how much they spent on cars, overseas visits and the hosting of official events last year, this take to 8 the number of central government ministries that have released the figures. The State Council has ordered all 98 of China's central government departments and offices to publish details of their spending on these three items by the end of Jun this year, currently 90 departments are yet to make the details of their spending public. Experts have also criticized those departments who have released their figures, saying that the numbers are “too rough” to explain how the money was spent. As of yesterday, in addition to the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage , the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Education, the National Audit Office and the General Administration of Press and Publishing have all published details of their spending.
