On July 21, at the conclusion of a meeting of Chongqing's Municipal Party Committee, it was announced that the city would invest more than one trillion yuan over the next 5 years in various projects aimed at reducing the wealth gap in the region. The 12 projects that were earmarked by city leaders include job creation initiatives, new village construction and the building of public rental housing. City officials say they aim to reduce the ratio of urban to rural incomes to approximately 2.5: 1 by 2015.
