Spring Airlines Starts Beijing-Shanghai Route, Pricing Tickets 30% Below Rivals

Privately-owned Spring Airlines has finally been allowed to fly the Beijing-Shanghai Line, the country's most sought-after route, which has long been monopolized by the three state-owned aviation companies, China News Radio reported Wednesday.

Their average fares are 30% cheaper than rivals on the route, but those other airlines are unlikely to make major price cuts since Spring Airlines' market share is small, said Zou Jianjun of the China Aviation Management Institute.
