China Encourages Foreign Investors to Participate in Reform of SOE

China's minister of Commerce Chen Deming said yesterday that China will encourage foreign companies to participate in the reform and restructuring and of China’s state-owned enterprises. Mr. Chen said that foreign companies could take part in the reform process through merger and acquisitions (M&A), adding that some eligible foreign companies could list on China's domestic stock markets. The commerce minister also said that in the process of establishing mechanisms that will allow China to better supervise M&A activity and weigh anti-privacy concerns, the country will further improve foreign M&A policies making them more transparent and strengthening their legal basis. Chen also mentioned other policies aimed at encouraging foreign investment in high-end manufacturing, high-tech industries, modern service industries, new energy and other fields. He also said that China would encourage foreign investment to set up regional headquarters and research and development centers in China.
