According to Xinhua News Agency, China's cental government has decided to raise the country's national poverty line for rural residents so that now anyone earning less than 2,300 yuan net a year (at 2010 prices), will be eligible for support. This new standard represents a 92% increase on the one announced in 2009 and means that many more low-income individuals will be eligible for assistance.
