The proportion of people in the Shanghai who smoke. Two years after Shanghai's ban on smoking in public buildings took effect, the city's smoking rate has been reduced to 18.6%, down from 37.6% in 2010, according to sohu.com. Local authorities say the ban will soon be expanded to include internet cafes, recreation centers and restaurants.

China's e-commerce continues its rapid expansion as online sales turnover in 2011 reached 780 billion yuan (124 billion U.S. dollars), a year-on-year increase of 66 percent, according to a report released Thursday.
