“90-7-3”
The concept that’s likely to guide government policy in regards to the elderly population – 90 percent will live at home, 7 percent will get government care and 3 percent will live in private facilities. The Telegraph

China’s 2012 Gini Coefficient, according to the Ministry of Statistics. This is the first time official Gini data has been released by the government since 2000. The data says the Gini level peaked in 2008 at 0.491 and has been easing downward since. Bloomberg

3.45 million
Number that China’s working age population decreased by in 2012 – the start of what’s expected to be a two decade decline. Financial Times

$580 million
Amount that Caterpillar announced it would write off from a deal it made last summer to acquire ERA Mining Machinery Ltd and its subsidiary Siwei. Caterpillar claims there was “deliberate, multi-year, coordinated accounting misconduct" at Siwei that greatly exaggerated its value. Reuters

$40 billion
The size of China’s lottery industry. By comparison, the U.S.’s lottery industry is $50 billion. Financial Times

13.3 percent
Proportion of urban male students who were obese, according to a 2010 study. This compares to 8.7 percent a decade earlier. AP
