Government to Focus on Spurring Domestic Demand in 2010

The first central government document of 2010, jointly issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, was released yesterday. The short document commits the central government to the basic policies of maintiaing food security through steady supply, improving people's livelihood by raising incomes, promoting co-ordination through reform and strengthening basic construction to stimulate development. The doucument also emphasised the importance of boosting rural consumption, with a scheme aimed at expanding the sales of building materials in rural areas.
