Pollution Prone Industries Listed for Scrutiny

A recent audit exercise revealed that Chinese government servants have abused official assets for personal use and partly caused some 3,900 billion yuan worth of assets purchased unaccounted for. Cars, laptops, computer-related items, houses, land and even charity donations are among the items taken up for personal benefits with official funds.

Internship programs have become an effective means for multinational information technology firms to spot talented youths to be roped into the work force later. The Microsoft Research Asia Lab in China has over 200 interns – who enjoy a salary, hostel facility, in-house training and recreational programs. Whereas IBM has over the years worked closely with 55 Chinese colleges and high schools to source for interns.

SOE to Issue Social Responsible Corporate Guideline

A Chinese government guideline, which requires state-owned enterprises (SOE) to submit scheduled reports on progress achieved in carrying out social responsibility and sustainable development, will soon be issued. The State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission will soon issue the priority circular to some 150 SOEs to outline the responsibilities expected from them, including environmental and resources conservation, charity and social works, moral and legal compliance.
