China Confirms Third Swine Flu Case

China announced that the country's third case of swine flu, the second on the mainland, has been confirmed.

A 19-year-old man suspected of being infected with A/H1N1 influenza tested positive to further tests carried out this morning, according to an official announcement posted to the Ministry of Health's website.

The patient, who is currently receiving treatment at Jinan's Hospital for Infectious Disease in the eastern province of Shandong, is a Chinese student at a Canadian university. He arrived in Beijing on a May 8 flight from Canada.

The Ministry has instructed the Civil Aviation Authority, the Public Security Bureau along with Beijing Municipality, Tianjin Municipality and the Shandong Provincial governments to track down and isolate all the people who came into close contact with the patient.

The man, surnamed Lü, stayed in Beijing for 3 days from May 8 to 11. On the afternoon of May 11, he developed symptoms such as fever, a sore throat and a headache. He took the express train from Beijing to Jinan on the evening of May 11 , and reported his symptoms to Jinan Municipal Center For Disease Control and Prevention while on the train.
