China yesterday announced the country's fifth case of swine flu, the third on the mainland, had been confirmed.

Beijing confirmed a case of A/H1N1 swine flu, China Ministry of Health said in a statement posted on its website on May 16.

The patient is a 18-year-old Beijing woman, who is currently a student at a university in New York State, in the US.

She arrived in Beijing on May 11 on a US Continental Airline's flight.

The statement said she found herself to have a slight fever after taking a temperature at midday on May 13.

Twenty hours after that, she went to Peking University First Hospital's clinic and was diagnosed as suspected of contracting A/H1N1 influenza.

On May 15, she was transferred to Beijing Ditan Hospital. The next day, she tested positive to A/H1N1 influenza in tests carried out by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.
