Beijing Subway Reverses Decision on Special Treatment for Newspaper Sales
Published:
2010-01-22
The Beijing Subway Company has given into pressure from major daily newspapers in the Chinese capital and reversed an earlier decision to prohibit the sale of all newspapers and magazines on the city's subway platforms with the exception of the Star Daily (北京娱乐信报 běijīngyúlèxìnbào) which is often handed out for free during the morning rush hour. Authorities will maintain the ban on the sale of any newspapers on the subway platforms, but they've said they'll look into constructing new newsstands close to subway exits. Starting from today, the Star Daily will no longer be able to distribute newspapers within the station.
