Banking Regulator Proposes Shake Up of Retail Banking Fees

Banks may be prohibited from charging fees for providing seven types of basic banking services such as opening and canceling a basic account, depositing, withdrawing and transferring services within the same bank and city and the printing of account statements for activity within the past year, according to draft regulations released by the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC). The CBRC is seeking comments on the regulations from interested parties including banks and consumers.
