The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) would issue regulations on automobile safety and recall management later this year, Liu Pingjun, deputy minister of GAQSIQ said in a news briefing yesterday. In 2010, China sold 18 million cars while recalling 1.17 million, which include 176,000 imported cars. For the same period, the United States sold 11.5 million cars while recalling nearly 20 million. Experts said the difficulties China faced in recalling defected cars mainly lied in the lack of administrative management and relatively weak legislation.
