Beijing Housing Prices Begin to Fall
With the Chinese government taking a tough position on curbing the speculative property market, housing prices in Beijing, Shenzhen and Shanghai have fallen. The prices in Wangjing, an emerging residential district in northeast Beijing that has been targeted by speculators in recent years, has decreased to 22,000 yuan per square meter from 25,000 yuan in mid-April.

Most research institutes forecast that the new lending figures for April, which are to be announced next week, will reach some 600 billion yuan. At this rate, new loans issued in the second quarter are not likely to surpass 2 trillion yuan.

260 Died of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease on the Mainland in 2010
Xiao Donglou, an official from Ministry of Health, revealed that as of May 4th, the cumulative number of people reported to have been infected with hand-foot-mouth disease has reached over 427,000 in the first four months of this year, more than 40 percent higher than the same period last year. Of the figure, 260 have died and 5,454 are seriously ill as a result of being infected with the disease.
