Leslie Chang, a former China correspondent for the Wall Street Journal, was back in Beijing recently to promote the Chinese edition of her book Factory Girls.
Originally published by Spiegel & Grau in 2008, the book explores the lives of two young migrant workers in Dongguan, a booming factory town in Southern China. Chang also interweaves the experiences of these young female factory workers with her own family history.
It was these three chapters, that touched on the violence of China's civil war and persecution during the Cultural Revolution, that were left out of the Chinese translation published by Shanghai Translation Publishing House in March.
Last week the Economic Observer's Book Review ran edited excerpts from each of the chapters along with a review of the translated book.
The PDFs of the three chapters are also available for download from Leslie Chang\'s official website.
