Russian Man Dies of A/H1N1 in Beijing
According to an announcement posted to the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau's website on Tuesday afternoon, a 32 year-old Russian man died in Beijing on November 2.
The man is said to have arrived in Beijing on an October 28 flight from Russia.
On November 1 he went with a colleague to Ditan hospital where he complained of breathing difficulties, a chest X-ray showed extensive damage to both of his lungs.
Despite the best efforts of medical staff, the patient's condition continued to deteriorate and he died at 4.30pm on November 2.
According to two throat swabs conducted on Nov 2, the patient tested positive for A/H1N1 influenza.
This is the eighth death caused by A/H1N1 influenza in mainland China and the second in Beijing after a first year student at the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics died in a Beijing hospital from the disease last week.
