The average price of housing in 70 of China's large and medium-sized cities rose by 3.9% in October compared with the same period last year. Data from the National Bureau of Statistics reveals that the average price of housing has been going up on a month-by-month basis for the past eight months.

Nine Sentenced to Death Over Urumuqi Riot Executed
Nine people who had been sentenced to death in relation to violent crimes committed during the riot that took place in Urumuqi on July 5 have been executed. One remaining criminal has had his death sentence suspended. Another 20 people have been charge with a series of offences related to the violent upheaval that shook the city.

China Raises Fuel Prices
Last night, China's National Development and Reform Commission announced that fuel and diesel prices around the country will be raised by 480 yuan per ton from midnight on November 10. The decision translates into an average rise of 0.36 yuan per liter for regular petrol and 0.41 yuan per liter of diesel.
