The Ministry of Finance announced yesterday that as of June 1, producers of hybrid and electric cars sold in Shanghai, Changchun, Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Hefei will receive subsidies of up to a maximum of 50,000 yuan for plug-in hybrids and 60,000 yuan for electric cars. The subsidies will be given to the car manufacturers and passed on buyers via lower prices.

China Names New Party Chief for Shanxi Province
Yuan Chunqing was appointed the new party chief of Shanxi province by the central committee of the Chinese Communist Party on May 31. Prior to this, Yuan was the governor of Shaanxi province. Yuan also worked at the country's Communist Youth League. The report announcing Yuan's appointment did not mention the fate of Zhang Baoshun who has served as party chief of the province since 2005.
